WHAT IS KDP?
Kindle Direct Publishing or known as KDP is a tool that was created by Amazon.com for authors who want to self-publish their works into an eBook format and distribute it directly to Amazon’s readers. Since KDP and Kindle's first launch in 2007, now Amazon’s eBook holds more than 80% of the market in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Kindle is a device that allows users to browse, buy, download, and read eBooks, magazines, newspapers, and other digital media that are sold in the Kindle Store.
Then what is KDP Select?
KDP Select is another program for authors that voluntarily give its exclusive rights to Amazon and sell their eBooks through the Kindle Store only. By agreeing on this, the author’s eBooks will no longer be sold in any retailer platform and given varieties of promotional tools such as Kindle Unlimited, Kindle Countdown Deals, and
Kindle Free Promotions.
KDP Select program lasts for 90-days service and after it ends, authors have the right to stop the program or to continue it for another 90-days. Authors also allow making available a 10% sample of the book outside the Kindle Store, printer or non-digital copies can be sold elsewhere, also copies of the book can be emailed to be reviewed and edited.
And there is Kindle Unlimited, what’s that?
Kindle Unlimited is an offer made by Amazon to its users that allows them to read as many eBooks as they’d like for only $9.99 a month subscription. When authors become Amazon’s KDP Select member, their eBooks are automatic will be available for Kindle Unlimited users. Kindle Unlimited users will receive notifications in their email suggesting eBooks based on their interest and reading history.
